It worries me that in the last two seasons his on-base percentage has dipped into the .320s. But he is a gamer and does work the count very well so I'm happy their interested in him. He would be good off the bench and spell Murphy at 2B, which looks to be where he's going to be this season (I pray he's not back int he outfield).

I think the Mets should sign Nathan and make him the closer. He will come cheap, and is one of the best if healthy. I also think the Mets should look into Grady Sizemore, if and when Pagan is nontendered or traded. Sizemore will be cheap and also can be lightning in a bottle.

At least the Nationals are pick 16 in the draft. That's the best possible pick the Mets can hope for, as picks 1-15 are off limits according to MLB rules I believe.

Nickeas has definitely shown he hasn't shown he can hit MLB pitching, but the FA class is so weak with 36+ year-old catchers. Maybe Sandy can make a trade for Kurt Suzuki.

If Heilman was given half of the chances Pelfrey had I suspect he would have developed into a solid starter. His 2005 starts were far from terrible, and his record when he was sentenced to the pen was better than Dan Haren's was at that same time. Pelfrey has had more than enough time to develop as a starter, and didn't have to spend his prime years in the bullpen. In his case the bullpen could be the answer.
Too bad the Met's didn't give Heilman a better shot, and groom Pelfrey as a closer when they had the chance.
